Strengthen what remains
Comfort rarely looks dangerous until spiritual life has already begun to disappear.
In Revelation 3, Jesus speaks to the Church in Sardis. From the outside, the congregation appeared successful. It had a name, a reputation, and the appearance of life. But Christ saw beneath everything people admired.
He said they were dead.
“Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.” Revelation 3:2 ESV
The Church in Sardis was not told to improve its image or protect its reputation. Jesus commanded them to wake up, remember what they had received, keep it, and repent.
Their greatest danger was not persecution from outside the Church. It was spiritual decay within it. Comfort had replaced urgency, reputation had replaced reality, and what once burned brightly was close to dying.
Yet the warning of Jesus was also an act of mercy. He spoke before everything was gone. There was still something left to strengthen. There were still believers who had not compromised. The Church still had time to repent.
That same warning must be heard today. A congregation can remain busy, fill its calendar, and appear healthy while its spiritual core grows weak. Individual believers can also maintain Christian habits while losing their hunger for God, sensitivity to sin, and obedience to His Word.

It is mercy before collapse, correction before judgment, and hope before it is too late. If the Holy Spirit is stirring what once burned within you, do not ignore Him. Wake up. Repent.
