Break the cycle
Destruction does not always begin with open rebellion. Sometimes it begins when God’s people become comfortable with delay, hesitation, and settling for less than obedience.
Joshua 1 opens during a major transition. Moses was dead, Israel stood near the Jordan River, and the generation that had wandered in the wilderness was gone. God had brought His people back to the edge of the promise, but they still had to move forward.
Joshua could not live forever in the shadow of Moses. He had to accept the responsibility God had placed before him.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 ESV
God did not tell Joshua to wait until fear disappeared. He commanded him to move with courage because His presence would go with him.
Israel’s previous generation had seen God perform miracles, yet fear kept them from entering the land. Joshua faced the same opportunity, but he could not repeat the same pattern. The cycle had to break.
Many believers remain trapped between what God has said and what they are willing to do. We pray for change while protecting the habits, excuses, and fears keeping us stuck. Faith is not merely agreeing that God’s promises are true. Faith responds through obedience.
