Many Are Called, Few Are Chosen: Will You Be Ready?
God’s invitation must never be treated casually. In the parable of the wedding feast, Jesus describes a king who prepared a celebration for his son and sent servants to call those who had been invited. Everything was ready, but they refused to come.
Some ignored the invitation and returned to everyday life. Others attacked and killed the king’s servants. Their rejection was not a harmless decision. They had been invited by the king, yet they considered everything else more important.
“For many are called, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22:14, ESV
The invitation then went beyond the original guests. The servants gathered everyone they could find, both good and bad, until the wedding hall was filled. This reveals the reach of God’s grace. The gospel is not reserved for people with impressive backgrounds or spotless histories. The invitation goes out to sinners everywhere.
But entering the room was not enough. One man appeared without a wedding garment and was cast outside. He wanted the benefits of the celebration without honoring the king. He came on his own terms rather than receiving what was required.
That warning still matters. We cannot enter the Kingdom through church attendance, religious identity, good works, or a casual claim of faith. We must come through Jesus Christ, clothed in the righteousness only He can provide.
Many hear the gospel. Many stand near the things of God. But hearing the invitation is not the same as responding through repentance and genuine faith.
The King has prepared the feast, and the invitation has gone out. The question is not whether you were called. The question is whether you have truly responded and whether you will be ready when the King examines the room.
