Are You Part of the Church or Just the Congregation?
A crowded church building does not mean everyone inside belongs to Christ. People can attend services, sing the songs, learn the language, and blend into a congregation without ever surrendering their lives to Jesus.
In John 10, Jesus draws a clear line between those who merely stand among the sheep and those who truly belong to Him.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27, ESV
Jesus did not say His sheep simply recognize His name. They hear His voice and follow Him. Their relationship with the Shepherd produces obedience. They are not led by religious tradition, popular opinion, or whatever voice speaks the loudest. They know the voice of Christ because they belong to Him.
That difference matters. A congregation is a group of people gathered in one place. The Church is the redeemed people of God, purchased by Christ and brought into His family through faith. Church attendance is important, but sitting in a sanctuary cannot save anyone.
Jesus also warns that thieves and strangers will attempt to lead the sheep away. False teaching can look spiritual, sound convincing, and hide behind religious language. Those who know the Good Shepherd must learn to recognize His truth through Scripture and refuse every voice that contradicts Him.
The question is not whether people consider you religious. It is whether Jesus knows you as His own. Have you truly heard His voice, surrendered your life, and followed Him? Or have you learned how to blend into the congregation without ever belonging to Christ?
