Never Lose Faith: Faith in Worship
Worship is more than music, emotion, or something that happens during a church service. True worship begins in the heart and is revealed through the way we approach God. Hebrews 11 points us back to Abel and shows us that worship which pleases God must be offered by faith.
“By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous.” Hebrews 11:4, ESV
Both Cain and Abel brought an offering, but Hebrews makes it clear that Abel’s sacrifice was offered by faith. He did not merely complete a religious act. He approached God with a heart that trusted Him, honored Him, and gave Him what He deserved.
That confronts the way we think about worship today. We can sing the right songs, use the right words, and go through every familiar motion while our hearts remain far from God. Outward activity is not enough. God sees beyond what people see. He knows whether our worship flows from genuine faith or empty routine.
Faith changes what we bring before God. It moves us away from giving Him whatever is convenient and teaches us to offer our lives in surrender. Worship that costs us nothing, changes nothing, and requires no faith has missed the heart of what God desires.
Abel’s life was taken, but his testimony did not die. Scripture says that through his faith, “though he died, he still speaks.” His worship left a witness that continues to confront every generation.
God is not looking for a performance. He is looking for people who will trust Him, honor Him, and approach Him with sincere hearts. Faith-filled worship does not end when the music stops. It becomes a life laid before God.
