When God speaks
When God speaks, darkness doesn’t debate. It obeys. Genesis 1:3-8 shows us a Creator whose voice brings light where there was darkness, order where there was emptiness, and separation where everything had been unformed. God does not speak without authority. His Word accomplishes what He commands.
That truth should confront the way we approach God today. Too often, Christianity becomes something we hear about without ever allowing it to change us. We can sit under Scripture, agree with what it says, and still walk away exactly the same. But when God speaks, the proper response is not passive agreement. It is obedience.
Genesis does not present creation negotiating with its Creator. God speaks, and creation responds. Light appears. Waters are separated. Order begins to replace what was without form. His authority is absolute.
“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Genesis 1:3 (ESV)
There is a difference between hearing the Word of God and responding to it. Biblical faith is never meant to remain intellectual. If Scripture exposes something in us, calls us to repentance, corrects our direction, or commands obedience, we cannot simply acknowledge it and move on.
That should make every encounter with God’s Word personal. If He is speaking, something in us should respond. His Word is not background noise for our lives. He is God, and when He speaks, His people are called to listen and obey.
