The Church was never meant to sit still

Somewhere along the way, many Christians began treating the Church like a place we attend instead of a people sent by God.

We come to church. We sing. We listen to a sermon. We shake a few hands, then go home and return to our regular lives.

But Jesus did not save us so we could sit comfortably inside a church building once a week. He saved us, changed us, and sent us into the world with a mission.

Paul writes:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV

That is where the gospel begins. Jesus Christ does what we could never do for ourselves. He forgives our sin, gives us new life, and makes us a new creation.

But Paul does not stop there.

“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:18, ESV

God did not just reconcile us to Himself. He gave us something to do. He gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

That ministry does not belong only to pastors, missionaries, or people standing behind a pulpit. It belongs to every believer. If you have been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, you have been called to help others know that they can be reconciled to Him too.

Your workplace is part of the mission field.

Your neighborhood is part of the mission field.

Your family is part of the mission field.

The people you see every week who are hurting, lost, addicted, angry, or far from God are not interruptions to your Christian life. They are the very people the Church has been sent to reach.

Paul goes even further:

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us.” 2 Corinthians 5:20, ESV

An ambassador does not represent himself. He speaks on behalf of the one who sent him. That means we do not get to change the message because the truth makes people uncomfortable. We do not water down repentance. We do not hide the cross. We do not replace the gospel with politics, entertainment, self-help, or empty religious activity.

We represent Jesus Christ.

We carry His truth, His compassion, and His call to repentance into a world that desperately needs Him.

The mission is not to convince people that Christians are nice. The mission is not to fill a building or build a religious brand. The mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Yes, the Church should gather. We need biblical preaching, worship, prayer, fellowship, and discipleship. But gathering is not the end of the mission. We gather so we can be strengthened, equipped, and sent back out.

The Church was never meant to sit still.

We have been reconciled.

We have been entrusted with the gospel.

We have been made ambassadors for Christ.

Now it is time to live like we have actually been sent.
