Jairus and the power of bold faith under pressure
What do you do when the pressure becomes too much to handle?
Mark 5 introduces us to Jairus, a synagogue ruler whose daughter was dying. His position, influence, and reputation could not save her. He needed Jesus, and he was willing to humble himself publicly to ask for help.
Jesus agreed to go with him, but the journey was interrupted. While Jesus stopped to minister to someone else, Jairus received the news every parent fears. His daughter was dead. The people told him there was no reason to trouble Jesus any longer.
But Jesus answered with five powerful words:
“Do not fear, only believe.” Mark 5:36 ESV
Jairus was forced to decide which voice he would trust. The circumstances said it was over. The messengers said there was no hope. Jesus told him to keep believing.
Bold faith is not pretending that pain is not real. It is choosing to trust Jesus when fear, pressure, and disappointment are screaming for control. Jairus continued walking with Christ even after the situation appeared hopeless.
When they reached the house, Jesus removed the voices of unbelief, entered the room, and called the girl to rise. What everyone else declared finished was not beyond His authority.
This passage does not promise that every painful situation will unfold exactly as we desire. It does remind us that fear does not deserve the final word. Jesus does.
