His steps, His story: miracles of mercy
Some people will never reach Jesus unless someone is willing to carry them.
Mark 2 tells the story of a paralyzed man who could not get to Christ on his own.
Four friends carried him to the house where Jesus was teaching, but the crowd blocked every entrance. They could have turned around, blamed the circumstances, or promised to try again later.
Instead, they climbed onto the roof, opened it, and lowered their friend directly in front of Jesus.
Scripture says Jesus saw their faith.
“And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’” Mark 2:5 ESV
Everyone expected Jesus to address the man’s physical condition first. Christ went deeper. Before healing his body, Jesus dealt with his greatest need by forgiving his sins.
The religious leaders silently accused Jesus of blasphemy because only God can forgive sin. They were right about one thing: forgiveness belongs to God alone. What they refused to see was that God was standing in front of them.
Jesus then healed the man publicly, proving His authority to forgive sins. The man who had been carried into the house stood, picked up his mat, and walked out before everyone.
This passage reveals that the mercy of Jesus reaches deeper than the need people can see. Physical healing mattered, but forgiveness was greater.
The full message above explores Mark 2, the faith of four determined friends, and the authority of Christ to forgive and restore. We are not promised that every prayer for physical healing will be answered immediately, but we are commanded to bring people to Jesus.
Real faith refuses to let crowds, obstacles, or inconvenience have the final word. Carry the hurting. Make room. Trust the mercy of Christ.
