Retirement is something we can spend decades working toward and still feel unsure about. We think about the years ahead, the people who depend on us, and the decisions we hope we are getting right. Even after years of saving and planning, the question can remain: Am I prepared?

David Hudson joins Faith and Family Fellowship to discuss The Forty-Years Guide to a Less Stressful Retirement. His book approaches retirement from a Christian viewpoint, bringing a subject often associated with financial pressure into a conversation about how we prepare for the future.

The full title is The Forty-Years Guide to a Less Stressful Retirement: An Easy-to Understand Guide to Retirement From a Christian Viewpoint. That emphasis on making the subject understandable is a welcome starting point. Retirement can feel complicated before we have even begun asking questions. Sometimes the language alone makes people hesitate to learn more.

We need room for those questions. Some people are looking ahead to retirement for the first time. Others are much closer to it and wondering what they should have done differently. Whatever season we are in, avoiding the subject does not make the uncertainty disappear.

For Christians, planning for the future also brings us back to stewardship. What have we been entrusted with? How are we using it? What responsibilities do we have toward our families? Those are personal questions, and they deserve more thought than a quick promise that everything will work out.

Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”

That verse calls us toward diligence. It does not give us a formula that removes every hardship or guarantees a particular financial outcome. It reminds us to take our decisions seriously, give them careful attention, and resist the pressure to rush.

Preparing for retirement can be part of that work. We can ask questions, seek sound counsel, and become better informed while continuing to trust God. We can also talk honestly with our families about what we hope the years ahead will look like.

In this episode, David introduces the book at the center of that discussion. If retirement is approaching, or you simply want to give the subject more attention, his conversation with Pastor Chris offers an introduction to his writing and its Christian perspective.
